skills.lab Academy FAQ

Here you will find answers to the most important questions about the skills.lab Academy.

What is the skills.lab Academy?

The skills.lab Academy is a development program for football talents in childhood and youth age, which will be organized by skills.lab for the first time for the duration of the 2021/22 season.

What is the goal for the skills.lab Academy?

The Corona pandemic meant that playing football was severely restricted for children and young people for more than a year. As a result, the sporting development of the children and young people has also suffered. The skills.lab Academy aims to offer at least a group of children and young people the opportunity to work specifically on their football skills free of charge and under state-of-the-art training conditions.

What services does the skills.lab Academy include?

Academy participants receive access to free individual training at the skills.lab in Wundschuh. The participating children and young people complete a training program consisting of individual training sessions and regular assessments of their technical skills. As a rule, the training sessions take place every 14 days – in isolated focus phases also weekly (a total of approx. 25 training sessions during the season). The training in the skills.lab Academy is intended as an addition to the regular club training of the participants.

Who can participate in the skills.lab Academy?

The skills.lab Academy is aimed at children and young people in seven age groups (cut-off date 01.06.2021):

  • U8 (born in 2014)
  • U9 (born in 2013)
  • U10 (born in 2012)
  • U11 (born in 2011)
  • U12 (born in 2010)
  • U13 (born in 2009)
  • U14 (born in 2008)

The skills.lab Academy is divided into a Kids Academy (ages U8-U11) and a Junior Academy (ages U12-U14). All players born in the years listed above can apply for admission to the skills.lab Academy.

How many players will be admitted to the skills.lab Academy?

For each age group, the two best boys and the two best girls receive a place in the skills.lab Academy. This means that a total of 28 children and young people (= 14 boys and 14 girls) receive a place in the skills.lab Academy.

How does the admission to the skills.lab Academy take place?

The selection of participants for the skills.lab Academy takes place via so-called “scouting days”. On these scouting days, all registered players complete a “Skills Check”. The Skills Check is a selection of representative exercises in the skills.lab Arena in Wundschuh and enables an objective comparison of the technical performance of all registered players.

During the Skills Check, a player’s passing, finishing, dribbling and overview are objectively tested. The Skills Check takes about 30 minutes per player. At the end of each Skills Check, all participating players receive an individual overall result. The overall results of all applicants are ranked according to the result, so that those applicants with the highest overall result qualify for the skills.lab Academy. Each applicant can only complete one skills check. A repetition is not possible. For each age group, the two girls and two boys with the highest overall score qualify for the skills.lab Academy.

When do the scouting days take place?

The scouting days for admission to the skills.lab Academy will take place in July and August 2021. Each player can complete a maximum of one Skills Check during the scouting days. It is not possible to repeat the Skills Check during the scouting days.

The dates of the scouting days are:

  • July 23-24, 2021
  • July 30-31, 2021
  • August 06-07, 2021
  • August 13-14, 2021

If the number of registrations is sufficient, additional dates for scouting days can be added if necessary.
